My name is Kate McKenzie.
I am a Registered Nurse with over 16 years of experience working in hospitals throughout Australia and New Zealand, my experiences in nursing have been varied and extremely fulfilling.
In 2018, I moved to Auckland and I underwent further training and certification in ear microsuction to enable me to provide this service. I gained my experience working alongside and being coached by an amazing ear nurse while working in clinics over Auckland.
I decided to start up my own company firstly, to enable me to choose my workdays and time for more freedom and flexibility. In addition to this, I wanted to challenge my mind and myself to use my energy to create and deliver a service that I could be proud of and that was authentic to me.
I am also interested in naturopathy, reflexology, and aromatherapy. My education in the future will include in-depth studies of these modalities with the expectation that my service over time will evolve and be influenced more and more by these specialities.

Microsuction
How is it done
Your microsuction appointment covers inspection, ear wax removal, education and health advice for both ears.
Essentially, I use a combination of tools to safely remove the ear wax. This may include the use of a medical-grade suction unit, small microsuction tools, ear curettage, and cerumenolytics. Every service is specifically tailored to the individual and their situation.
The microsuction itself may be a little noisy as it removes the ear wax. If the wax is too hard or the ear canal is swollen and inflamed, then the procedure may be uncomfortable. This may necessitate the need for the client to soften the wax with olive oil for 3-7 days, then return, so the procedure can be completed with minimal discomfort.
Microsuction can be used even if there is a perforation, it is useful for removing debris and drainage resulting from an ear infection. It is also possible to remove foreign bodies.
Olive oil drops can be used in the ear canal to soften the ear wax for three days prior to the appointment provided the client does not have a perforation. I have olive oil with glass droppers available for sale from my clinic.
What if I do not have any wax?
If you book an appointment and you have no wax that needs to be removed, then you will not be charged for the appointment. I recommend that people pop in during my walk-in times for a quick ear assessment.
It is important to note that hearing loss and earaches also have other causes. You should consult your doctor or audiologist if you have these symptoms or think you have an ear infection.
